Employment insurance (EI) benefits have become important to many people; here are some tips on improving your chances of your claim for benefits being accepted.

First, apply right away, even if you don’t have all of your records of employment (ROE) it’s important to establish your claim as soon as possible, once you get the ROE then forward it to the commission. The longer you delay the greater the chance you could jeopardize your claim.

Second, make sure you provide the commission with all your ROEs. A missing ROE may make the difference between an accepted claim or a rejected claim.

Third, check your ROE’s and make sure the hours on them are accurate. If you need 700 hours to collect EI and have 694 hours then your claim will be rejected, so accuracy is important.

Fourth, if you receive an unfavourable decision, appeal to the board of referees. The commission makes mistakes and you should exercise all of your rights under the law.

Fifth, if you need help the Calgary workers resource is available, at no cost, just call 403 264 8100.

Sixth, go to the service Canada website at www.servicecanada.gc.ca or call 1 800 206 7218 for more information on your obligations and rights.

With these tips I hope you are successful in your employment insurance application.
